Are you ready to take the next step in your construction career? Build on your basic construction skills and gain practical, hands-on industry training with our Trade Ready course.

Real world industry experience will give you the ideal foundation to progress your construction career. Working on live construction projects, students have direct exposure to a variety of construction trades and professions and will learn from some of the most experienced construction professionals in the industry. The Trade Ready program is underpinned by technical training, employability skills and career education, integrated into a live construction project.

Trade Ready is conducted over six weeks. Students are fully immersed in an operational construction project five days a week. You will complete three subjects, including working safely at heights and asbestos awareness, plus green skills training, 120 hours of Structured Workplace Learning, and a Personal Development Program.

#Who it suits

Trade Ready is ideal for anyone who is motivated to progress a career in the construction industry. From those who have just finished school, to people who have already worked in construction, and those looking for a career change.

This course is for students who are Queensland residents with Australia or New Zealand citizenship and who are no longer at school (except for students in Grade 12, Term 4).

#Delivery

This course gives you a hands-on learning experience on a live construction site.

Together with structured workplace learning, Hutchies Training provides career education in face-to-face and online formats. Our easy to use online learning management system delivers the information you need to take your construction career further.

#Assessments

You will be assessed on seven essential tasks and a structured workplace learning component.

The tasks are:

  1. Safety on a Construction Site
  2. Stuff I need to know
  3. Setting out a site
  4. Saw stool
  5. Construction project
  6. Environment
  7. Structured workplace learning

Assessment is performed by trainers with the right skills and experience to the tasks being undertaken. Our assessment process meets the National Assessment Principles and we provide relevant equipment, facilities, and training materials to create a learning environment that gives our students the ability to succeed.

#Course Materials

We provide all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to work on a construction site. All course materials and related information is provided through the learning management system.

#Requirements

To enrol for a Hutchies Training Pre-employment Course, you should meet the following requirements:

  • An Australian or New Zealand citizen, or permanent resident
  • A Queensland resident
  • With school and parent / guardian permission for students in Grade 12, Term 4

What is Trade Ready?

The Trade Ready program provides industry based training for career seekers in the South East Queensland region. Students get direct exposure to a variety of construction trades and professions. It provides an ideal foundation to progress a construction career. Working on live construction projects, students have direct exposure to a variety of construction trades and professions and will learn from some of the most experienced construction professionals in the industry.

How long is the course?

The course will take approximately eight weeks to complete Monday to Friday.

How much does it cost?

The course is funding by Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) for eligible participants.

How do I enrol?

Am I guaranteed a job or apprenticeship?

You are not guaranteed a job or apprenticeship, however you are trained in resume writing, job applications and interview techniques that may assist you in a career path in construction.

What is Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)?

SWL is incorporated in our courses to maximise opportunities for participants to experience as many different construction jobs as possible.

#Units of Competency

Trade Ready is made up of three key competencies plus green skills training, together with structured workplace learning, and personal development.

CPCCCM2010B / Work safely at heights

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to work safely o construction sites where the work activity involves working above 1.5 metres from ground level and where fall protection measures are required.

CPCCCM3001 / Operate elevated work platforms up to 11 metres

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to operate specific types of elevated work platforms (EWPs) safely and effectively in different locations, including on uneven terrain. The unit includes locating, setting up, operating and shutting down scissor lifts and self-propelled boom lifts with a boom length under 11 metres.

ASBIRA001 / Identify and report asbestos containing materials

This course is designed to provide the knowledge and skill for individuals to be able to identify a range of asbestos products and materials and be able to report the material to the relevant person or Authority.

BSBSUS201 / Participate in Environmentally Sustainable Work Practices

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to effectively measure current resource use and carry out improvements, including reducing the negative environmental impact of work practices.
